Abstract
- Injection-locked ring oscillators (ILROs) are widely used for quadrature clock generators (QCG) in multi-lane wireline or optical transceivers because of their low power, low area, and technology scalability. However, locking a four-stage I/Q oscillator with a two-phase injection signal generates imbalances in amplitude and phase, resulting in I/Q phase errors and degraded jitter performance. This paper proposes a modified frequency-domain analysis with amplitude constraint for even-phase ILROs. Combining theoretical derivations with simulation results in 28nm CMOS technology, the behaviors of ring oscillators with partial injection and ILRO-based QCG are discussed and concluded.
