Abstract
- The article reports on the requisites for research in psychotherapy. Psychological researchers in therapeutic areas must be especially cautious about naively accepting patients' statements at their face value. Introspective evidence has been suspect ever since the earliest days of psychological experimentation; but, for all its failings, it is utterly essential for investigations into therapy. For the proper understanding of research reports, as well as for the encouragement of experimental repetitions by subsequent researchers, fairly complete diagnostic or descriptive information on therapeutic research cases should be published along with the factual data.
