Abstract
- A pyrochlore-structural oxynitride Nd<subscript>2</subscript>Ta<subscript>2</subscript>O<subscript>5</subscript>N<subscript>2</subscript> with a visible light absorption edge of ca. 620 nm was explored for photocatalytic water splitting. Dual functions of Nd<subscript>2</subscript>Ta<subscript>2</subscript>O<subscript>5</subscript>N<subscript>2</subscript> were confirmed by proton reduction and water oxidation half-reactions through separately loading Pt or CoO<subscript>x</subscript> as a cocatalyst in the presence of the corresponding sacrificial reagent. Finally, the platinum modified sample (Pt/Nd<subscript>2</subscript>Ta<subscript>2</subscript>O<subscript>5</subscript>N<subscript>2</subscript>) was prepared and employed as the H<subscript>2</subscript>-evolving photocatalyst to fabricate an effective photocatalytic Z-scheme overall water splitting together with PtO<subscript>x</subscript>/WO<subscript>3</subscript> as the O<subscript>2</subscript>-evolving photocatalyst and IO<subscript>3</subscript><superscript>−</superscript>/I<superscript>−</superscript> as shuttle ions under visible light irradiation.
