Abstract

The article focuses on the issues of planning and spatial mobility in the periphery of the GDR. It mentions GDR was indeed committed to improving mobility and that the gradual expansion of the public transport network from the late 1950s. It also mentions GDR planners began to focus on rationalization of the transportation system, which also meant eliminating railways serving small remote communities and state's inability to provide effective mobility services in the periphery.
