Abstract

The article informs that the there are no reliable quantitative indices of the "functional capacity" of the immunological system in man. The occurrence of infections, the levels of immunoglobulins, the elicitation of coetaneous delayed hypersensitivity reactions, and the antibody response to various vaccine antigens have all been used, but standard routine methods have not been developed. This paper describes an attempt lo use antibody production to flagellin as one index of the functional capacity of the immune system, and describes the response in subjects considered to have a normal antibody-producing system.
