Abstract

The article describes a quality improvement project aimed at reducing the incidence of pressure injuries in children caused by peripheral intravenous cannulaes (PIVC), conducted at a general children's ward in a hospital in Far North Queensland. Topics discussed are pressure injuries specific to PIVC, modification of PIVC audit tool to observe the effect of the changes made to PIVC care, staff education and adoption of practice changes, and ethical considerations for conducting the project.
