Abstract

This paper finds that non-exporters benefit from industrial agglomeration through manufacturing specialization, whereas little effect of local specialization on productivity is found among exporters. We organize this special issue not only to gain understanding of how China's regional development works but also to introduce China's experience to other emerging markets as reference. Over the past decades, China's economy has expanded at a staggering pace by means of various reforms and economic liberalization. [Extracted from the article]
