Abstract

A biography of fiction writer Harriet Beecher Stowe is presented. Stowe was born on June 14, 1811 in Litchfield, Connecticut to Lyman and Roxana Beecher and died on July 1, 1896 in Hartford, Connecticut. She began to write the novel "Uncle Tom's Cabin" in the wake of the U.S. Congress's enactment of the Fugitive Slave Act and spurred by a vision she experienced at a church service. She also wrote another slavery novel "Dred."
