Abstract

The article examines the Emergency Refuge Measure granted by Japan's Ministry of Justice to the thousands of residents of Myanmar who fled their country since the February 2021 coup d' état. Topics discussed include the insufficiency of the protection of refugee rights being given under the Emergency Refuge Measure, and Japan's violations of the 1951 Convention and 1967 Protocol Relating to the Status of Refugees despite amendments to its domestic refugee law.
