Abstract

The article focuses on reflection on race has given rise to historiographical debates of French Revolution. It mentions Age of Enlightenment, particularly in the colonies, with the development of the natural sciences, a racist discourse asserts itself on a supposed hierarchy of groups humans based on visible differences. It also mentions citizenship and equality in law, the abolition of slavery in 1793/1794 and the institutionalization of a science of man.
