Abstract

A biography of novelist, poet and artist Barbara Chase-Riboud is presented. Chase-Riboud was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on June 26, 1939. She became a popular writer almost overnight, with the publication of "Sally Hemings" which won the Janet Heidinger Kafka Prize for best novel by an American woman in 1979. Her other works include " "Valide: A Novel of the Harem," From Memphis and Peking," and "Echo of Lions."
