A biography of poet and social activist Jayne Cortez is presented. Cortez was born Sallie Jane Richardson on May 10, 1934 in Fort Huachuca, Arizona and died on December 28, 2012 in New York City. She attended Compton Junior College and married jazz saxophonist Ornette Coleman in 1954. Her achievements are mentioned. Her works include "Scarifications," "Mouth on Paper," and "Firespitter."
