Abstract

A biography of novelist Betty Smith is presented. Smith was born on December 15, 1896 in Brooklyn, New York City to a family of German immigrants and died on January 17, 1972 in Shelton, Connecticut. She married George Smith and they later moved to Michigan. She more than 70 one-act plays during the 1930s and early 1940s. Her works include "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn," "Tomorrow Will Be Better," and "Maggie-Now."
