Abstract

A biography of novelist, essayist and critic Margaret Walker is presented. Walker was born on July 7, 1915 in Birmingham, Alabama to Sigismund Walker and Marian Dozier Walker and died on November 30, 1998 in Chicago, Illinois. She began publishing poetry in the 1930s in magazines such as "Poetry," "Opportunity," and "Crisis" but is perhaps best known for her novel "Jubilee." Her works include "The Ballad of the Free," "Prophets for a New Day," and "October Journey."
