Abstract

A biography of novelist and poet Sherley Anne Williams is presented. Williams was born on August 25, 1944 in Bakersfield, California to Lena and Jessee Winston Williams and died on July 6, 1999 in San Diego, California. She was one of the talented African-American writers who emerged on the post-Civil Rights movement literary scene. Her first story was published by the "Massachusetts Review" in 1967. Her works include "Dessa Rose," "The Peacock Poems," and "Some One Sweet Angel Chile."
