Abstract
- The study was carried out in 2018 in a fruit-bearing cherry plantation of the Fruit Growing Institute – Plovdiv. The effect of the long-term chemical weed control /carried out in the period 2001-2018/ on the physiological condition and nutritional status of six sweet cherry cultivar/rootstock combinations was studied in intensive production systems. Higher values of the chlorophyll content and carotenoids were reported in all the herbicidetreated variants: chlorophyll a was by 1.23 mg/g DW; chlorophyll b by 0.17 mg/g DW; chlorophyll a+b by 0.56 mg/g DW and carotenoids by 0.65 mg/g DW higher, compared to the There was a clear tendency to higher values of nitrogen, potassium, phosphorus and magnesium in the herbicide-treated variants compared to the control, which confirmed the importance of the efficient chemical weed control as a means of maintaining a favourable microclimate in cherry production.
