Abstract

In this paper, the variation of the dielectric properties of metatitanic acid and metatitanic acid–titanium carbide mixtures with apparent density and temperature at 915 MHz were systematically investigated by resonant cavity perturbation. The phase transition of TiO<subscript>2</subscript> was determined by an X-ray diffractometer and Raman spectroscopy. The optimal dielectric properties are achieved when the apparent density of the material is 0.50 g/cm<superscript>3</superscript> at 25 °C. At high temperatures (> 850 °C), the dielectric properties of the metatitanic acid–titanium carbide mixture are significantly improved due to the phase transition of TiO<subscript>2</subscript>. Meanwhile, the reflection loss calculation shows that the mixture's electromagnetic reflection loss decreases with the increase in the titanium carbide ratio; 9% of the mix is the best ratio, indicating that metatitanic acid has a better microwave absorption effect under the action of titanium carbide additives. In addition, the XRD and Raman analysis shows that it is feasible to prepare rutile TiO<subscript>2</subscript> by low-frequency (915 MHz) microwave heating the metatitanic acid–titanium carbide mixture.
