The article presents information on the economic and political conditions in Hong Kong, China as of January 2005. It is suggested that Hong Kong's chief executive, Tung Chee-hwa, is likely to remain in his post until the end of his second term in 2007. Gross domestic product growth will slow during the next two years, although economic performance will be strong compared with the late 1990s. After several years of deflation the consumer price index is expected to rise by an average of 0.4% in 2005 and 1.2% in 2006.
