Abstract

The article focuses on the implementation of universal newborn screening for congenital cytomegalovirus (cCMV) in Minnesota which is the first state in the U.S. to do so. Topics include the prevalence and impact of cCMV, previous unsuccessful efforts to identify cases, and the benefits of early detection through newborn screening including timely consultation with pediatric infectious disease specialists and evaluation for hidden damage caused by the virus.
