The study focuses on those elements of the history of the Golden Bull, issued by King Andrew II in 1222, which the historical consciousness believes that “we know for sure”. These include, among other things, the place and date of the publication of the Golden Bull, the circumstances in which it was issued, the question of the interpretation of some of its particularly significant provisions and, closely related to this, its content, with particular reference to the interpretation of the famous reservation of resistance. The answers to the questions raised reveal what we really know, what we can reasonably assume (although historiography cannot prove it beyond all doubt with its own instruments), and what are the opinions previously thought to be scientifically established, which are contrary to the historical reality of the Golden Bull and thus belong to the world of legends.
