Abstract

Metropolitan Museum of Art, Shyanne Beatty was eager to view the Native American works that art collectors Charles and Valerie Diker had been accumulating for nearly half a century. And because the Dikers loaned the quiver set to the Met in 2017 and didn't transfer title to the museum, the Met wasn't required to inform tribes that it possessed the item. The museum also stated that it is misleading to use "complete ownership histories as a standard for judging a collection", noting that much of the Diker collection has previously been exhibited and researched by other major U.S. museums.
