Abstract

Various studies of total hip arthroplasty from many existing researchers have examined implant user external factors from implant user. Unfortunately, internal factor of implant user is not profoundly discussed. Our current study aims to understand von mises stress in CoCrMo-on-CoCrMo of total hip arthroplasty based on body mass index of implant user. Numerical estimation using 2D finite element model is presented for this purpose with varying loads based on various body mass index categories, consisting of underweight, normal, overweight, obese class I, obese class II, and obese class III. Gait loading under normal walking conditions is carried out per actual conditions of human hip joint. The result describes that von mises stress increased with a greater body mass index.
