Abstract

The grey cast iron is one of the most widely used and easily cast ferrous materials in foundries. One-of-a-kind foundry material with exceptional properties, it has been demonstrated to be the most suitable material available for a wide variety of engineering applications, competing with newer materials. An assembly for the nose leg made of low alloy grey iron was evaluated in this study, which was made utilizing a casting method commonly called evaporative pattern casting. It is a sand moulding technique using evaporative patterns created by moulding or machined from a block of expandable polystyrene block. Often called lost foam casting, this contemporary casting method is used in most metal casting industries today. Design of the components were done in CATIA V5.0, while simulation study was done in ANSYS. There are boilers that use the nose leg assembly in power plants. In addition, this study explains the characteristics and advantages of lost-foam casting. It also discusses the factors involved in the lost-foam casting process. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
