Abstract
- Poorly soluble zinc ethylenediaminetetraacetate zincate Zn[ZnL] reacts with sodium Na<subscript>4</subscript>L, potassium K<subscript>4</subscript>L, ammonium (NH<subscript>4</subscript>)<subscript>4</subscript>L, 2-ammonioethanol (H<subscript>3</subscript>NCH<subscript>2</subscript>CH<subscript>2</subscript>OH)<subscript>4</subscript>L, and hexamethylene-1,6-diammonium {H<subscript>3</subscript>N(CH<subscript>2</subscript>)<subscript>6</subscript>NH<subscript>3</subscript>}<subscript>2</subscript>L salts of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid H<subscript>4</subscript>L to give readily soluble sodium Na<subscript>2</subscript>[ZnL], potassium K<subscript>2</subscript>[ZnL], ammonium (NH<subscript>4</subscript>)<subscript>2</subscript>[ZnL], 2-ammonioethanol (H<subscript>3</subscript>NCH<subscript>2</subscript>CH<subscript>2</subscript>OH)<subscript>2</subscript>[ZnL], and hexamethylene-1,6-diammonium {H<subscript>3</subscript>N(CH<subscript>2</subscript>)<subscript>6</subscript>NH<subscript>3</subscript>}[ZnL] ethylenediaminetetraacetate zincates. The reaction of tetrakis(triethylammonium) salt {(C<subscript>2</subscript>H<subscript>5</subscript>)<subscript>3</subscript>NH}<subscript>4</subscript>L with Zn[ZnL] does not give the expected bis(triethylammonium) ethylenediaminetetraacetate zincate {(C<subscript>2</subscript>H<subscript>5</subscript>)<subscript>3</subscript>NH}<subscript>2</subscript>[ZnL], but gives instead mono(triethylammonium) ethylenediaminetetraacetate zincate, {(C<subscript>2</subscript>H<subscript>5</subscript>)<subscript>3</subscript>NH}H[ZnL]; in aqueous solution, this product generates poorly soluble zinc ethylenediaminetetraacetate H<subscript>2</subscript>[ZnL(H<subscript>2</subscript>O)]·2H<subscript>2</subscript>O, which was studied by X-ray diffraction (CCDC no. 2172274).
