Urgency of the research. In the conditions of a full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation and active hostilities throughout Ukraine, the Russian language has become the "language of the aggressor". Consequently, communication in the Ukrainian language acquires not only general educational or cultural, but also political and ideological significance. Target setting. Learning the official language (Ukrainian language for Ukraine) is the main task of educational policy because language is not only a means of communication but first and foremost a "reality of consciousness", which should unite people into a single community called "Ukrainian people" and form the national identity. Learning the official language "strengthens society" and then comes up as an issue of national security. Actual scientific researches and issues analysis. Representatives of different fields of science are working fruitfully on the mentioned problem, such as B. Azhnyuk, G. Yevseeva, S. Yermolen-ko, L. Zabolotska, A. Zagnitko, T. Kovalo-va, I. Kresina, L. Mamchur, I. Pentylyuk, A. Potebnia, K. Svirzhetskyi and many others. Along with this, there are a number of problems that require further scientific research. The research objective. To analyze the role of the Ukrainian language in the context of the formation of Ukrainian national identity, to define the subject, tasks and scientific basis for the study of the official language in Ukraine. The statement of basic material. The main disadvantages of studying the Ukrainian language during the USSR period and the tasks of their eradication are being analysed, and the political, ideological and educational aspect of studying the official language is being considered. The main methodological and didactic principles of learning the official language, and promising ways and approaches to effective learning of the Ukrainian language are being defined. Conclusions. The statehood of the Ukrainian language is the basis for the formation of the modern Ukrainian nation, it is the main factor in the consolidation of the Ukrainian society, a symbolic embodiment of Ukrainian statehood, and a guarantee of preserving the national identity of the Ukrainian ethnos and the state unity of Ukraine. But along with this major challenge, the main feature of a developed democratic society remains undiminished: the recognition of the rights and freedoms of all citizens, regardless of ethnicity, culture or language, and the ethnicity, culture or language, and the respectful treatment of any individual who is a citizen of Ukraine.
