Abstract

The Gemini Papers, an assignment for undergraduate student-teams when planning and doing a lab experiment, welcomed subjective insights not normally captured in a more traditional, objective lab report. Students wrote short, reflective, first-person accounts, articulating the messiness of experimentation. Applying the four-quadrant integral ecology model with its multiple perspectives of knowing, they began to form understandings and make meaning gained through observation and testing, as well as by trusting intuitions, crazy notions and missteps too. Students examined their processes of both their lived and lab experiences while explicitly twinning natural and social science to embrace countless and complex ways knowledge is arrived at and intelligence is viewed and valued.
