Abstract

Tetrabasic ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid H<subscript>4</subscript>L binds two molecules of monobasic amines to give the corresponding salts: ethylenediaminetetraacetates of bis(monoethanolaminium) H<subscript>2</subscript>L<superscript>2–</superscript>⋅2<superscript>+</superscript>H<subscript>3</subscript>NCH<subscript>2</subscript>CH<subscript>2</subscript>ОН, tris(hydroxymethyl)methylaminium H<subscript>2</subscript>L<superscript>2–</superscript>⋅2<superscript>+</superscript>H<subscript>3</subscript>NС(CH<subscript>2</subscript>ОН)<subscript>3</subscript>⋅3H<subscript>2</subscript>О, diethylaminium H<subscript>2</subscript>L<superscript>2–</superscript>⋅2<superscript>+</superscript>H<subscript>2</subscript>N(C<subscript>2</subscript>H<subscript>5</subscript>)<subscript>2</subscript>⋅H<subscript>2</subscript>О, tert-butylaminium H<subscript>2</subscript>L<superscript>2–</superscript>⋅2<superscript>+</superscript>H<subscript>3</subscript>NС(CH<subscript>3</subscript>)<subscript>3</subscript>⋅5H<subscript>2</subscript>О, and triethanolaminium H<subscript>2</subscript>L<superscript>2–</superscript>⋅2<superscript>+</superscript>HN(CH<subscript>2</subscript>CH<subscript>2</subscript>ОH)<subscript>3</subscript>. Dibasic hexamethylene-1,6-diamine, triethylenediamine, and tetramethylethylenediamine form the following 1 : 1 adducts: H<subscript>2</subscript>L<superscript>2–</superscript>⋅<superscript>+</superscript>NH<subscript>3</subscript>(CH<subscript>2</subscript>)<subscript>6</subscript>NH , H<subscript>2</subscript>L<superscript>2–</superscript>⋅<superscript>+</superscript>NH<subscript>3</subscript>CH<subscript>2</subscript>CH<subscript>2</subscript>(OCH<subscript>2</subscript>CH<subscript>2</subscript>)<subscript>2</subscript>NH , H<subscript>2</subscript>L<superscript>2–</superscript>⋅ <superscript>+</superscript>HN(CH<subscript>2</subscript>CH<subscript>2</subscript>)<subscript>3</subscript>NH<superscript>+</superscript>⋅H<subscript>2</subscript>О, and H<subscript>2</subscript>L<superscript>2–</superscript>⋅<superscript>+</superscript>H(CH<subscript>3</subscript>)<subscript>2</subscript>NCH<subscript>2</subscript>CH<subscript>2</subscript>N(CH<subscript>3</subscript>)<subscript>2</subscript>H<superscript>+</superscript>.
