Patient‐centricity: Research's new shibboleth?

The article proposes that the enactment of patient-centered research (PCR) may serve other ends. It endorses the warning that participatory action research may be instrumentalized and subordinated and raises the political aspect of PCR in tokenism. It suggests the evaluation of patient/consumer participation in research via measures of stakeholder engagement and calls for public funding for universities determined by neoliberal governmental policies and imperatives to efficiency.
