Abstract

The current worldwide COVID-19 pandemic created a vital need for innovative solutions to aid in early detection and control of the virus. High body temperature is one of the early symptoms of covid-19. Thus, this project proposed to design and develop a smart-gate system that will be placed at an entrance of a public places such as markets, shops to detect the body temperature of a person entering and also calculate the level of social distance of the same place. The level of social distance is determined by the number of people in relation to the area. The system operates as follows; it calculates the level of social distancing of a public place showing the maximum number of people the place can hold at a time. When a person enters, the temperature is detected and if it is within the acceptable range, the system will send a signal to the gate to open only if the maximum number of people has not been exceeded. The system also displays the number of people on a screen. Additionally, if the temperature exceeds 370C, the system will not send a signal to the gate to open while a buzzer is activated indicating the detection of covid symptom. This system developed for this study can be used in numerous applications such as stores, meeting rooms, classrooms, government buildings, courts, and hospitals. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
