Abstract

The article explores the concept of "impressionism" in literary discourse and how it impacts the relationship between writers, their works, and readers. It highlights how various authors, such as Thomas Hardy, Virginia Woolf, and Henry James, used the rhetoric of impressions to convey the authenticity of their narratives. Richard Wright's use of impressionism, is discussed as it plays a crucial role in his novel "Native Son" and shapes his approach to defending his work.
