Our results showed that the development of IBS symptoms after TD is substantial and strengthens our understanding of the multifactorial nature of PI-IBS. At-risk travellers with acute onset of IBS symptoms that continued for at least 6 months following the episode of gastroenteritis during their travel were considered PI-IBS cases (Figure 1A).
