Abstract

A recent study conducted by Newcastle University in England aimed to understand the data collection practices in care homes for older adults. The study found that care homes collect extensive data on the health, care, and support needs of individual residents, but few collect information on quality-of-life. The data collected is used for various purposes, including monitoring care quality, medication use, staff training needs, budgeting, and marketing. The study suggests that countries considering introducing social care records or a mandated minimum data-set should work with care home organizations to review existing data collection practices and evaluate the implications of collecting and sharing data.
