Abstract

A recent study conducted by researchers at Polytechnic University Marche in Ancona, Italy, examined the epidemiological trends and trajectories of metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD)-associated hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in Italy. The study found that the prevalence of MAFLD HCC in Italy is rapidly increasing and is expected to cover the majority of patients with HCC. Despite a less favorable cancer stage at diagnosis, patients with MAFLD HCC had a lower risk of HCC-related death, suggesting reduced cancer aggressiveness. This research provides valuable insights into the relationship between MAFLD and HCC and highlights the need for further investigation in this area. [Extracted from the article]
