Abstract

A study conducted in Conakry, Guinea, aimed to understand the predictors of death in patients with rifampicin-resistant tuberculosis (RR-TB) who were treated with a short course of medication. The study found that 18.9% of the 869 patients died during treatment, with the majority of deaths occurring within 120 days of treatment initiation. Factors associated with death included being treated in certain TB centers, being 55 years old, having no history of first-line TB treatment, and living with HIV. The researchers suggest that these findings can inform the national TB control program in improving patient care for RR-TB. [Extracted from the article]
