Abstract
- A report by BGI Genomics has found that 94.1% of Kuwaiti women are willing to undergo thalassemia screening after learning about the associated health risks. This percentage is higher than the global average of 84.5%. However, only 38.1% of Kuwaiti women can persuade their partners to seek genetic counseling and consider preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) if both partners are thalassemia carriers, which is lower than the global average of 50.9%. The report aims to increase understanding of thalassemia and attitudes towards screening and genetic counseling. [Extracted from the article]
