Abstract

Researchers from Mazandaran University of Medical Sciences in Sari, Iran, have conducted a study evaluating the antihypoxic activities of colchicine, an anti-inflammatory drug primarily used for gout treatment. The researchers found that colchicine showed good protective effects against hypoxia in circulatory and haemic models, with the drug being more effective than the positive control, propranolol. However, colchicine did not show any activity in the asphyctic model. This research suggests that colchicine may have potential benefits in protecting against hypoxia-induced lethality.
