Abstract

A study conducted at Parma University Hospital in Italy compared the short-term outcomes of open and minimally invasive surgery for posterosuperior liver segment resections. The study, which focused on a single surgeon's experience, found that laparoscopic surgery was technically challenging but became safer and more effective over time with increasing surgeon expertise and the use of advanced technology and surgical techniques. The study also identified liver cirrhosis and multiple lesions as risk factors for severe postoperative complications. The research concluded that laparoscopic surgery for posterosuperior liver segment resections is a viable option with comparable postoperative morbidity rates to open surgery.
