Abstract

A study conducted by researchers at Symbiosis International (Deemed University) in India has analyzed the portrayal of sexual violence in popular Hindi movies. The study found that these movies often feature attempted rapes and gang rapes, which reinforce rape culture and normalize sexual assaults. The researchers argue that the mainstream film industry's portrayal of rape against Dalit women has contributed to the intensification of rape culture in Indian society. The study highlights the need for a better understanding of the rural rape culture and the role of caste and gendered honor in perpetuating sexual violence. [Extracted from the article]
