Abstract

A study conducted by researchers at Nanjing Medical University in China has found that serum Cystatin C levels within 24 hours of admission could potentially predict acute kidney injury (AKI) in Chinese patients with community-acquired pneumonia (CAP). The study included 2,716 patients with CAP, of which 766 (28%) developed AKI. After multivariate logistic regression analysis, serum Cystatin C was identified as an independent factor for AKI in CAP patients. The researchers concluded that serum Cystatin C within 24 hours of admission could serve as a reliable biomarker for predicting AKI in Chinese patients with CAP. [Extracted from the article]
