Abstract

A recent study conducted by Chongqing Medical University in China compared the efficacy and safety of focused ultrasound (FU) at different focal depths in treating vulvar lichen sclerosus (VLS). The study included 84 patients with VLS, with 43 cases treated at a focal depth of 2.5 mm and 41 cases at a focal depth of 4.0 mm. The researchers found that there were no significant differences in age, disease course, history of immune system diseases, lesion size, and severity of symptoms between the two groups. Both groups successfully received FU therapy, but the recurrence rate at 12 months was lower in the group treated at 2.5 mm focal depth compared to the group treated at 4.0 mm focal depth. The experimental group also had a shorter treatment time and lower treatment energy. The study suggests that FU therapy at a lower treatment depth can achieve similar therapeutic effects with a lower recurrence rate, treatment time, and energy. This research provides insights into optimizing clinical protocols for VLS treatment. [Extracted from the article]
