Abstract

A recent study conducted in China has found that rotavirus infection, which causes acute gastroenteritis in children under 5 years old, imposes a significant economic burden on the country. The study analyzed the cost of rotavirus-associated gastroenteritis (RV AGE) from a societal perspective and found that the total social cost was estimated to be US$282.1, while the private cost was estimated to be US$206.4. The study suggests that introducing rotavirus vaccines into national immunization programs could greatly reduce the economic burden caused by RV AGE in China. [Extracted from the article]
