Abstract
- A recent study conducted by Kocaeli University in Turkey aimed to evaluate the long-term effects of cochlear implant surgery on the vestibular system in pediatric patients. The study compared the vestibulo-ocular reflex (VOR) gains of children who had undergone cochlear implant surgery with those of a healthy control group. The results showed that there was a significant difference in VOR gains in the anterior semicircular canal between the implant users and the control group. However, there was no significant difference in VOR gains between unilateral and bilateral implant users, and the presence or absence of the cochlear implant did not affect VOR gain. The study concluded that bilateral implant surgery did not lead to additional vestibular dysfunction compared to unilateral implant surgery. [Extracted from the article]
