Abstract
- The effect of withdrawal of caffeine from the diet of a group of highly disturbed severely retarded adult patients was studied. Two weeks withdrawal produced no improvement in sleep pattern or behaviour, but re-introduction of normal diet was accompanied by a highly significant increase (<em>P</em><0.001) in ward disturbance ratings.
