Abstract

This article compares the growth and carcass performance of water buffalo and cattle under similar rearing conditions. The study finds that water buffalo have favorable growth performance in terms of weight gains under grazing conditions compared to being fed concentrate rations. However, buffalo have a lower dressing yield than cattle due to a higher percentage of non-carcass components. Despite this, buffalo carcasses exhibit more desirable attributes and may have advantages when graded by quality. The article provides a summary of 16 trials conducted between 1975 and 2020, comparing the two species under similar conditions. [Extracted from the article]
