Abstract
- A recent qualitative study conducted by the University of Technology Sydney explored parents' preferences and motivations for receiving and discussing prognostic genetic test results for their children with neurodevelopmental conditions. The study involved semi-structured interviews with 32 Australian parents, and the data was analyzed using reflexive thematic analysis. The findings revealed that parents of mildly impacted or older children were more tolerant of prognostic uncertainty, and they preferred discussions about their child's potential strengths and challenges. While most parents were enthusiastic about prognostic tests, they also expressed concerns about the potential loss of hope and societal stigma. The researchers suggest that health professionals should consider a strength-based approach when delivering prognostic information to families. [Extracted from the article]
