Abstract

A study conducted by researchers at Southern Medical University in China examined the impact of the New Rural Pension Scheme (NRPS) on the health status of elderly individuals with chronic diseases in rural areas. The study used data from the 2018 China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) and employed Bayesian networks and fuzzy regression discontinuity design for causal analysis. The results showed a positive effect of receiving NRPS on the health status of elderly individuals with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma. The researchers concluded that the Chinese government should increase the uptake of NRPS to improve the health status of elderly individuals with chronic diseases in rural areas.
