Abstract

New research on vaccination in South America, specifically in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, and Uruguay, has been conducted to analyze the epidemiology of meningococcal disease (MD) and the impact of vaccination programs. The study found that the overall incidence of MD has decreased in Argentina, Brazil, and Chile, but has significantly increased in Uruguay. The introduction of meningococcal conjugate vaccines (MCV) has led to a reduction in serogroup C, W, and Y cases, but serogroup B has become predominant in all four countries. The researchers emphasize the importance of continuous surveillance and high vaccine uptake, particularly among adolescents, to maintain population protection. [Extracted from the article]
