Abstract
- A recent study conducted by the University of British Columbia in Surrey, Canada, focused on the treatment of metacarpal fractures in plastic surgery. The study found that post-treatment stiffness is a significant challenge in these cases, and treatment goals should prioritize stability, minimal patient morbidity, and optimal mobility. The researchers reviewed the use of a hand-based splint in the treatment of these fractures and found that it allowed for excellent maintenance of fracture reduction, early return to pre-injury activities, low patient morbidity, and maintained functional motion throughout treatment. The study concluded that this splint can be applied to any non-operative fracture of the second through the fifth metacarpal. [Extracted from the article]
