Abstract

Teeth grinding, or bruxism, is a common habit that many people do without realizing it. It can cause symptoms such as headaches, tooth sensitivity, and neck pain. Bruxism can occur during sleep, making it difficult to know if you are doing it. Stress, lifestyle changes, and sleep disorders like snoring and sleep apnea can contribute to bruxism. Over time, grinding and clenching can wear down tooth enamel and cause other dental problems. Treatment options include wearing a nightguard or occlusal splint, getting Botox injections, and addressing underlying causes such as stress. It is estimated that between 8 and 31 percent of Australians have bruxism, but it may be more common than that. Regular dental check-ups can help identify symptoms of bruxism.
