Abstract

The article discusses the results of a large European registry on the Sapien S3 transcatheter pulmonary valve replacement (TPVR). The registry data shows that the Sapien S3 valve performs well in the short- and intermediate-term, especially when treating dysfunctional conduits or bioprosthetic valves. However, there are challenges when using the Sapien S3 in patients with native right ventricular outflow tract (RVOT) anatomy, with a 12% complication rate related to pre-stent migration/embolization and valve malposition. The article also highlights concerns about infective endocarditis rates and leaflet thrombosis in TPVR patients. Overall, while the Sapien S3 is a promising option, it is not a panacea and there are still important considerations and risks to be aware of. [Extracted from the article]
